    General Description:

    Delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Also directs and guides patient teaching, activities of nursing and ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

    Essential Job Duties:

    Displays competency in nursing practice and patient care activities working alongside a Precepting RN:

    • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.

    • Applies knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases and uses available resources in assessment process.

    • Provides clear, concise, written assessment of patient on admission and subsequently in a timely manner in EMR.

    • Summarizes assessment data and makes a nursing diagnosis and/or identifies problems which are communicated to the physician and subsequent caregivers.

    • Follows through, as needed, on information given by shift report, patient or family regarding patient concerns.

    • Plans care (written or verbal) and implements plan of care for patients as required by specific care unit utilizing available resources, consulting with patient, supervisory nursing personnel, physicians, ancillary personnel, family members etc.

    • Demonstrates ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.

    • Participates in discharge plan using all available resources and identifies need for care at home or alternatives such as outpatient treatment, extended care facility, etc.

    • Performs essential unit specific competencies related to clinical and technical aspects of patient care with skill and accuracy based on the unit specific policies and procedures.

    • Performs point of care testing (POCT), including testing, documentation, and quality control with skill and accuracy as directed by the medical director of laboratory services in

    • accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

    • Intervenes with proper technique, procedure and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patient.

    • Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.

    • Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.

    • Documents nursing intervention, patient response, effectiveness, complications, etc.; communicates information to peers and physician.

    • Respects dignity and confidentiality of patient serving as an advocate as necessary and providing a safe and secure environment for the patient

    • Functions within limits of State Nurse Practice Act, Hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures. Provides care and demonstrates skills comparable to peer with similar training and experience functioning under similar circumstances

    • Evaluates nursing care, expected outcomes following intervention and accomplishment of goals.

    • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.

    • Provides self-care/family instruction as needed.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Work/Education requirements:

    - Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing is required.

    - Must be currently licensed in the State of PA, with a Temporary Practice Permit

    - Must have current CPR certification.

    - Must obtain ACLS certification within 1 year of employment.
