Hand Therapy

My name is Kevin King. As a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), I have advanced training in upper extremity rehabilitation. This includes a wide array of issues that involve the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. To become a CHT requires 4,000 hours of direct practice in this field followed by an intensive exam that has up to a 60% failure rate. Upon becoming a CHT I joined roughly 7,000 other individuals in the USA that have this credentialing. With this training and over 7 years of practice directly in this field I am able to treat a wide variety of upper extremity issues. Here are just a few by body part:

Shoulder:

  • Impingement or rotator cuff syndrome

  • Sprains, strains, or dislocations

  • Rotator cuff and/or labrum repairs

  • Total shoulder replacements both anatomical and reverse

  • Bursitis or tendonitis

  • Shoulder fractures; humerus or scapula

Wrist:

  • Distal Radius or Ulna fracture

  • Sprain or strains

  • De Quervain's

  • Thumb joint arthritis with or without surgery. CMC arthroplasty/LRTI.

  • Carpal tunnel, with or without surgery

Other Considerations:

  • Custom molded splints for fingers, wrist, and/or elbows

  • Help with choosing and fitting commercial braces or splints

  • Scar and edema reduction techniques

  • Burn rehabilitation

  • Astym treatment – I am one of 2% of all OT’s (there are thousands of providers, both OT [14%] and PT) certified in this technique that can treat both upper and lower extremity issues

Elbow:

  • Lateral or Medial Epicondylitis. AKA, tennis or golfers elbow

  • Elbow fractures. Radial head, olecranon, distal humerus, etc.

  • Radial tunnel or cubital tunnel syndrome

  • Distal biceps repairs

Hand:

  • Tendon repairs

  • Trigger finger

  • Mallet finger

  • Fractures to the fingers or hand itself

  • Amputations

  • Dupuytren's contracture

All treatments are geared to the individual being treated. The OT team aims to restore your ability to use the arm for daily tasks. There is no one technique for all, we customize the therapy program to match what’s happening and where you want to get to.
