Who We Are
Providing inpatients with the prescription drugs they need to pursue medical treatment, the Pharmacy at Warren General Hospital works with the doctors and nurses to ensure the smooth and speedy recovery of all patients.
Located on WGH’s third floor, the Pharmacy communicates directly with hospital nurses and physicians whose patients require medical treatment in the form of pharmaceutical drugs. Upon request, a pharmacist will meet with hospital physicians to discuss the symptoms of his or her patient. Following this discussion, the pharmacist will personally meet with and evaluate the physician’s patient. Then, using the science of pharmacokinetics, which allows for the mathematical calculation of a drug’s proper dosage, the pharmacist will create a personalized drug treatment plan for the patient. The pharmacist will supply the patient’s physician or nurse with this plan and the prescribed drugs outlined in the plan.
Following the pharmacist’s initial evaluation, the pharmacist will continue to work with the hospital’s medical staff during treatment. Pharmacists will assist nurses by monitoring a patient’s drug consumption, making dosage adjustments, and selecting new drug treatment methods as necessary.
To guarantee the safety of all of its patients, the hospital’s Pharmacy utilizes the latest technology in prescription drug treatment. For instance, pharmacists have online access to a national database of patient profiles. This ensures that pharmacists have extensive knowledge of their patients’ histories and can thus accurately prescribe medication. Pharmacists also have access to MicroMedix. This online system provides pharmacists with extensive information concerning various drugs and drug treatments. In addition, the hospital features Pyxis machines. These computerized devices provide the hospital’s nurses with 24-hour access to the prescription drugs they need to treat their patients.
The Pharmacy Department at WGH is open Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. To provide the hospital’s medical staff with around-the-clock pharmaceutical assistance, a pharmacist is always available on call.
