Once a diagnosis and treatment plan is underway, many patients, families or caregivers seek additional support and information. A variety of support groups are active in the region. Please view the adjoining pages for descriptions and contact information regarding groups that meet at or are affiliated with Warren General Hospital. Please search the following site: www.jdfamilycenter.org for more information regarding other support groups available in the area.
Women with Cancer
If you are a woman in the Warren County area who is currently dealing with cancer in any form, or if you have already finished treatment, whether it be last month or 30 years ago, this group is designed for you. A group has formed that meets the third Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at the Cancer Care Center. This group, which began as a support group for women with breast cancer, quickly decided that women dealing with cancer, no matter what type, would benefit from meeting and talking to other women dealing with similar issues. The meeting is for women only and the information shared is to be kept confidential. Informal meetings are often breakfast meetings at a local restaurant. For more information please contact Terry Cook, Cancer Center Diredctor @ coterry@wgh.org
Close to the Heart - Transplant
Close to the Heart, established in 1999, is a local transplant support group which welcomes transplant patients/families as well as those on the waiting list, possible future transplant candidates/families, families who have lost loved ones to transplant and donor families. Close to the Heart meets every other month (Jan/Mar/May/July/Sept/Nov) on the third Tuesday. The July meeting is traditionally a picnic meeting held at Betts Field.
