Who We Are

Top trauma care begins at Warren General.

Warren General Hospital Emergency Care Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to treat emergencies—any illness or injury that can't wait for an examination by a family physician. No one plans a visit to the Emergency Center, but once there, you want to be assured of the highest quality care available.

Through its Clinical Affiliation with UPMC Hamot, Warren General offers complete access to the top trauma team in the region, the UPMC Hamot Shock Trauma Center. UPMC Hamot Emergency Physicians staff the Center, and have a hot line to allow for consultations and immediate decisions for patients who need specialists available at the Level II Trauma Center.

Upon your arrival at the ECC, an experienced triage nurse will perform an assessment. Triage is the clinical process of prioritizing and assessing the severity of your medical condition. This information helps to prioritize patients based on the urgency of their symptoms. It is important to note patients are not seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. We want to assure that you will receive the appropriate level of care as soon as possible. If your condition is serious, you will receive care immediately upon presentation.

Our goal is to provide excellence in community health with quality and compassion. The length of time in the ECC is different for everyone. Depending on your condition, the extent of tests that may be needed to make a diagnosis, the specialists that may be required to evaluate you, and the number of other patients seeking care at the same time will all impact the amount of time for proper diagnosis and treatment.

We want you to understand that completing all of these steps with excellence in quality can take time. Following the comprehensive evaluation, a management plan will be discussed with you.

Our goal is to satisfy every patient’s needs, either within the department, by admission and treatment as an inpatient or by appropriate referral to another service outside of the hospital. We work to ensure that everyone receives the appropriate care within a reasonable period of time. We know that a visit to the Emergency Care Center can be an upsetting, unexpected, even frightening experience for some people. Please know that our staff is highly trained and will provide the best care possible. If you have questions at any stage of your evaluation and treatment, please do not hesitate to ask.
