Who We Are

Helping those with a chemical dependency to regain control of their lives, the Detoxification program at Warren General Hospital guides individuals plagued by addiction through the first step on the road to recovery.

The Detox program, headquartered at WGH, provides assistance to those afflicted with a chemical dependency.  The program offers medical treatment for individuals addicted to substances such as alcohol, opiates, pain medication, and benzodiazepines. Non-medical treatment is also available for those with dependency to drugs such as cocaine and marijuana.

If a person is suffering from a substance addiction and wishes to receive treatment, they should report to WGH’s Emergency Care Center.  The ECC staff will request the services of the Detox professional staff for an evaluation of the patient. If the evaluation indicates hospitalization, the patient will be admitted into the three-day Detox program.

As an inpatient, an individualized plan will be created to stabilize a patient’s condition.  In addition, patients will be scheduled to attend support groups.  Patients will also meet regularly with professionals to discuss the trigger, relapse, and accountability issues they currently face.  Basic interventions may also be performed which will teach the patient about the long-term consequences of their dependency.  Referral resources are available for patients in need of long-term rehabilitation.

If admission is not indicated, a detailed discharge plan outlining recommendations for preventive measures on combating addiction will be provided. Support groups such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous programs are available and encouraged.  Narcotics Anonymous holds meetings every Tuesday and Sunday at the hospital.  To learn more about the Detox program contact WGH at (814) 723-3300 ext. 1875.
